PIERRE, (KCCR) — Four years after Medicaid benefits were expanded by voters, and debate over the issue rages on. A coalition of health professionals, patient advocacy groups and business and community leaders are urging voters to reject Amendment I on this year’s ballot. The amendment would roll back medicaid expansion if the Federal cuts its share of the cost below 90-percent. Vote No on Amendment I chair Deb Fischer-Clemens says that would remove coverage for 30-thousand South Dakotans, which she says could cost the state more in the long run…
The Legislature proposed the amendment out of concerns of the growing amount of the budget required to pay for the program. Last year, Medicaid made up the largest portion of the state budget at 30-percent or 758-million dollars.
