The Pierre Governor football team would score the final 28 points Friday night to beat the Tea Area Titans 38-17 on Homecoming night to remain undefeated moving to 5-0.
Pierre trailed 10-7 at the break with a Landon DeRuyter 31 yard field goal and the Govs offense sputtered in the first half with two turnovers. However, Pierre would fight through the adversity as Carter Templeton would nail a 34 yard field late in the third to tie the game at 10-10. Tea would take the lead one more time early in the fourth quarter, but a quick strike as Porter Hunsley ran his first touchdown in from two yards out to tie the game at 17. After a punt from the Titans, Jerren Deal would hit Carter Schiefelbein for a 74 yard throw and catch to give Pierre its first lead of the game with 7:02 left in the fourth. Hunsley and Schiefelbein each had a second touchdown to outscore the Titans 28-7 in the quarter to pick up the 21 point win. Deal would be 18-23 for 302 yards and two touchdowns while running for 24 yards and a score. Hunsley hit the century mark with a 102 yards on the ground and the offense finished with 451 yards on the night. Logan Witte had an interception in the end zone in the third.
Pierre improves to 5-0 while Tea falls for the first time at now 4-1. The Governors will host the 3-2 Huron Tigers on Friday night. Coverage begins at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
