During the investigation, the Office of the Inspector General mailed 120 Priority Mail packages. One package had no tracking information with it. Of the 119 packages 40, or 34-percent, were routed out of South Dakota. Most were sent to Denver or Des Moines. One test Priority Mail package got sent through Royal Palm, Florida, a western suburb of Palm Beach just north of Miami. The three report recommendations include a feasibility study on the location of a centralized processing and restoring intrastate transportation. Second, aligning intrastate service standards to an appropriate delivery timeframe and lastly, require a process to publicly communicate impacts to mail service when shifting processing operations.
