The Pierre Governor tennis team would get a 9-0 win on Tuesday over the Spearfish Spartans in the first of two home duals this week as the Govs will host St. Thomas More Thursday afternoon.
Elise Bowers in flight one, Ainsley Dilges in flight five and Emma Barnett in flight six would all win 8-0 matches while Eliza Mayer in flight two, Adrian Hand in flight three and Avery Schwartz in flight four would finish off a sweep of the singles matches. Bowers and Mayer in doubles flight one, Hand and Gemma Stangeland in flight two and Schwartz and Dilges in flight three would finish off the 9-0 win for the Govs to improve to 6-11 on the season.
Thursday, the Govs will host St. Thomas More in the final dual of the season before the ESD tournament beginning next week. The Cavaliers are 3-7 coming into the day. The Govs and Cavs both were at the Madison Tournament a month ago, but since it was not a dual, only select Governors have played against any of the girls from St. Thomas More. It’s the final home match of the season, however, all girls are eligible to play again next year as the Govs do not have a senior on the varsity roster.
The dual begins at 1:00 Thursday afternoon at the Griffin Park Tennis Courts in Pierre.
