With both games being played at the same time, the Pierre Governor soccer teams would each get wins on Tuesday over the Sturgis Scoopers with the girls winning 4-0 and the boys winning 5-3.
In the girls game, the contest would have a scoreless tie in the first half, but the Governor offense took over after the halftime break. Zoey Bauer and Aubrey Fischer would score a minute a part to quickly go up 2-0 in the second half before Ivy Flottmeyer would score twice to finish out the 11th win of the season keeping the Govs undefeated. Fischer had two assists along with her goal while Lexie Hillmer had an assist for Pierre. Emlyn Swanson had three saves as Pierre shuts out its opponent for the sixth time this season.
Jacoby LaRoche would open the scoring for the Governor boys as he would score the first two, but the Scoopers would tie it up making it 2-2. However, Caiden Ahartz had a very quick answer to make it 3-2 and put the Govs back in front. Sturgis would again tie the game at 3-3, but Holden Semmler would have the answer again a minute later after Ahartz initial ball into the box was pushed by the goalkeeper. Ahartz would finish out the scoring with his second goal of the game on a PK. The Governor defense would hold on in the final 20 minutes of the second half not allowing the Scoopers to score. Pierre improves to 3-5-2 as the offense comes alive after scoring just four goals in the last five games. Carter Templeton battled his way to his third win of the season in net.
The Governors will not be back at home during the regular season with just two games left in the season. The Govs will travel to Aberdeen on Thursday to face the Golden Eagles. The boys kickoff at 4:00 with the girls game to follow.
