For the final time in the regular season, the Pierre Governor soccer teams will be at home as the Govs host the Sturgis Scoopers with both the boys and girls teams playing at the same time.
Because of the parade tonight, the Scoopers agreed to play the varsity games earlier than scheduled for athletes, parents and fans to attend both. Pierre and Sturgis will both kick off at 3:00 at the PILC Fields in Pierre. The Governor boys will look for its third win of the season and climb the standings with just three games remaining in the season. Sturgis comes in at 4-7 with two wins over Class A Belle Fourche, Rapid City Central and Douglas/New Underwood, but are in 18th place in the standings. Pierre, at 2-5-3, is in 15th place and will look for its third win of the season in the final home game.
The Pierre girls will play for the final time at home in the regular season, but currently sitting at 10-0 and in second place, no matter how the final three games go, Pierre will be one of the top eight teams to guarantee a home game in the first round of the playoffs, if not even more. The Scoopers are 4-6 and have two wins over Belle Fourche and a win over Douglas/New Underwood and Spearfish as the Scoopers are in 13th place in the AA standings. Pierre is one of five teams averaging less than a goal against per game and second fewest goals allowed in AA with only Harrisburg giving up fewer, by just one.
Kickoff for both games is scheduled for 3:00 this afternoon at the PILC Fields in Pierre.
