PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Murdo man has been sentenced on a federal assault charge. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says 20 year-old Dane Menard was sentenced by U-S District Judge Eric Schulte to two-and-a-half years in federal prison with three years of supervised release and an assessment to the federal crime victims fund. Menard was indicted by a federal grand jury in August of last year on a count of Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Parsons says back on March 15 of 2025 Menard struck the adult male victim with his vehicle in the driveway of a residence near White River. The residence was located in a part of Mellette County that covers the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, allowing federal authorities to handle the case through the Major Crimes Act. The victim was hospitalized with injuries including both a broken arm and leg. Parsons did not say what led up to Menard striking the victim with his vehicle. Menard was sentenced on Monday and taken by the U-S Marshals Service to begin his prison time.
