While Senate Bill 96 is allowing counties to enact the half-cent sales tax for owner-occupied property taxpayers, all home owners will see some relief. Senate Bill 245 will take the restored point-three percent in sales taxes starting next July and use it as a property tax credit. The state is using 56-million dollars in reserve funds to jump start a property tax reduction fund. Hughes County owner-occupied property tax payers could see an estimated 22-percent reduction in their property taxes.
