The Pierre Governor football team would outscore the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles 35-0 in the second quarter to get a running clock in the second half and win 42-14 Friday night at home.
The Governors and Golden Eagles were tied 7-7 after the first quarter after just two offensive drives for each team. Pierre scored on a five yard touchdown catch to Cooper Terwilliger to take a 7-0 lead, but after a punt, Aberdeen Central would score on Porter Lozenski rushing score. Pierre responded in the second quarter in a big way. Pierre ran just 11 plays in the second and scored five touchdowns. Porter Hunsley had a 19 and a three yard rushing touchdown before scoring from six yards out on a jet sweep. Carter Schiefelbein had two catches for two scores of 45 and 64, each being the only play of the drive and the Govs led 42-7 at the break to enact the running clock. Jerren Deal would finish 5-9 for 136 yards and four passing touchdowns while also running for 91 yards on eight carries. Tucker Swenson had the lone interception of the game, his first of the season. The Governors were able to bring their second string offense and defense in the game to finish out the win and move to 3-0 on the season. Aberdeen Central falls to 0-3.
Pierre will face the 2-1 Watertown Arrows who lost to 28-21 to Tea coming up this Friday. Coverage will begin at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
