PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Lyman High School Student is one of four to be selected for the Richard Hagen-Minerva Harvey Scholarship. The scholarships recognize enrolled American Indian students who have demonstrated strong commitments to learning, leadership and service. Marlee Wells of Lyman High School will get with the award a minimum of one-thousand dollars for each of the first two years of post-secondary education with that going to 15-hundred in year three and 25-hundred for the fourth and final year. Wells is a student council member at Lyman High along with being a state officer in the JAG or Jobs for America’s Graduates program. She also serves as a Freshman Impact volunteer at Lyman High School. Other students receiving a Hagen-Harvey Scholarship are Hayden Thompson of Timber Lake High School; Kylan West of Douglas High School in Box Elder and Rory Kiyukan at Andes Central. State Education Department Secretary Dr. Joe Graves says the students have gone beyond academic success by devoting free time outside of the classroom to establish lifelong qualities of servantship.
