The Pierre Governor football team would run less than 30 offensive plays thumping the Yankton Bucks 44-14 late Friday night in Yankton as the Govs move to 2-0 on the season.
It would be a big discrepancy in plays, but Pierre would be 6-6 offensively and average less than five players per possession as Jerren Deal had another monster game throwing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. The Govs ran 29 total plays while Yankton had 73. Porter Hunsley would break the century mark on the ground with 113 yards and a score. Carter Schiefelbein would get the scoring started on near 99 yard kickoff return taking just 13 seconds for the Governors to get on the board. It would be back-to-back three play drives for the Governors as Hudson Stoeser would get an 85 yard touchdown reception, followed by Will Danburg scoring from 81 yards out. Carter Templeton would nail a 40 yard field in the final seconds of the half and Pierre led 23-0 at the break.
Yankton would score on its opening drive of the second half, but it would be all they could get before the running clock would be enacted as Cooper Terwilliger carried from four yards out and Stoeser would make another touchdown grab, this time an 80 yarder. Hunsley added a 53 yard run to put the game into a running clock. The Gov defense would get an interception from Thomas Snyder and the defense had a bending but not breaking game. With 73 plays, Yankton racked up 427 yards, but only scored twice with the second coming in the final minute of the game. Yankton falls to 1-1
