For the first time this season, the Pierre Governor soccer teams would both get wins on the day as both the boys and girls teams would beat the Mitchell Kernels with 4-0 scores.
For the Governor girls, it’s the third straight shutout for Emlyn Swanson in goal and Pierre would score two goals in each half. Aubrey Fischer and Devyn Van Roekel would get the scoring started giving the Govs a 2-0 lead at the break. Sophia Brueggeman and Myah Fravel would each find the back of the net in the second half to improve the Govs to a 5-0 record and move the Govs back up the standings. Mitchell drops only its second game, but are now 3-2 on the season.
The Governor boys would get its first win of the season and the Govs earned every bit of the win. Carter Templeton had his second shutout of the season. Caiden Ahartz would get the scoring started in the first half and Pierre led just 1-0 at the break, his second of the season. Jacoby LaRoche would also get his second goal of the season making it a 2-0 with the assist coming from Ahartz. Lawson Fravel would put a shot on goal with a pass from LaRoche and it would ricochet off a defender and bounce right into the net to give the Govs a 3-0 advantage. Cael Shrake added the final touch with a rocket off the crossbar and in as the Govs stormed to three second half goals and busted into the win column in a big way. Pierre improves to 1-2-2 while the Kernels fall to 2-3.
Pierre will be back at home on Saturday as the Govs host Spearfish. The Governor boys will play first at 11:00 AM and the girls will follow around 1:00 at the PILC Fields in Pierre.
