PIERRE, (KCCR) — Drought conditions across South Dakota have seen some improvement in the last few week, especially in central South Dakota. A drought-free pocket southeast of Pierre and Fort Pierre has grown. Hughes County now sits under 66-percent no drought and 33-percent abnormally dry. Stanley County is currently 24-percent drought-free, up 13-percent from last week with abnormally dry at 76-percent with moderate and severe drought unchanged. Lyman County saw the biggest change for the better. Lyman County is now 60-percent drought-free and 40-percent abnormally dry. Moderate drought declined 37-percent to now six-percent from nearly 50 last week. A quarter of Jones County is under no drought at 25-point-seven percent with abnormally dry going from 98-percent to 74-percent and moderate drought now making up one-percent of the county. Drought also fell in Buffalo, Hand, Hyde Counties and extreme drought declined some across northern Ziebach County.
