PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre woman has been sentenced to suspended prison time after pleading guilty to Grand Theft. South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says 49 year-old Sharon Monson was sentenced to 10 years, however that sentence will hang over Monson with a 10 year term of probation. The Attorney General’s Office recommended Monson be sentenced to 10 years with five years suspended. As a part of the sentence, Monson will be required to pay 500-thousand dollars in restitution to South Dakota’s Department of Social Services. Jackley says Monson submitted false claims to the Medicaid program from May 1st of 2018 to January 1st of 2024 while owner of At Home Nursing in Pierre. Monson was charged with defrauding the state’s Medicaid Program of over 588-thousand dollars in state and federal Medicaid dollars. South Dakota’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit gets 75-percent of it’s funding for the U-S Department of Health and Human Services with the remaining 25-percent funding by the State of South Dakota.
