Two years ago, the Pierre Governor soccer team would go into extra time in the state quarterfinals, the best finish in Governor history. Last year, the Govs were shutout in the first round of the state tournament. This year, Pierre is itching to make history again.
The Govs have finished over .500 back-to-back seasons for the first time since soccer has been a state sport. Sean Blanchette enters his third year as head coach with the Governors. Pierre will return a couple of very experienced players with Caiden Ahartz and Jacoby LaRoche who have been a part of the offensive side of Pierre’s attack for the last several years as both head into their senior years. Blanchette says with Ahartz and LaRoche they are the natural leaders for this team…

The Governors open the season on Tuesday hosting Jefferson with a home match against Watertown on Thursday as Pierre hosts six of the first seven at home.
