PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Faith man has been sentenced to a year-and-a-half in federal prison on a First Degree Burglary conviction. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says 34 year-old Dalton Hump was sentenced to 18 months in federal custody by U-S District Judge Eric Schulte. Hump will also serve three years of supervised release. A federal grand jury indicted Hump on the Burglary charge in October of 2025. He was found guilty following a two-day trial this April. Parsons says evidence presented during the trial placed Hump unlawfully entering a residence in Ziebach County on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. Hump also assaulted two people inside the residence before he was forced outside. Hump was taken by the U-S Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence. The case was handled in federal court due to the Major Crimes Act, that mandates certain violent crime that is believed to have taken place on Tribal land be handled in federal court instead of state court.
