PIERRE, (KCCR) — Pierre and Fort Pierre first responders were called to the Oahe Dam powerhouse for a report of a fire late Wednesday morning. According to U-S Army Corps of Engineers Public Affairs Specialist Delanie Stafford, contractors working in the powerhouse were involved in a small fire. Three people were injured in the fire. One of those injured was transported to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital as a precaution. Officials are not releasing the names of those injured out of respect to their families Stafford says local crews responded quickly to put the fire out. The cause of the fire remains under investigation . The dam itself was not impacted by the fire and remains safe and operational. The fire did not affect the structural integrity of the dam. The exact work the contractors were conducting was not disclosed by the Corps of Engineers. Stafford says more details about the incident will be provided as they become available.
