Starting on Wednesday, the Class B State Amateur baseball tournament will begin in Mitchell and Four Corners will be playing in the final game of the first round on Sunday.
32 teams have qualified for the tournament including Four Corners who played for a district championship last week falling to Kimball/White Lake. Now, those 32 qualified teams will be competing in Mitchell for the Class B state championship. Four Corners will take on Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks Sunday afternoon closing out the first round of games. 4C finished the season at 11-6 and will face the Wood Ducks off the blind drawing pitting teams against each other for the first round of games. The Wood Ducks would go 16-6-1 on the season winning two of three district games to clinch a spot in the tournament. They opened the tournament with a loss to Madison before beating both Flandreau teams.
Four Corners is led by Andrew Coverdale’s .386 batting average while Garrett Stout is hitting .381. Austin Hand has the team lead 16 RBIS while Coverdale and Noah Hainey each have 13. Sam Hand has blasted three home runs to pace 4C with Austin Hand, Hainey and Jack Van Camp leading the pitching staff all having over 20 innings pitched with both Hand and JVC having below 2.5 ERAs.
It’s a single elimination tournament with the winner advancing to the second round to face either Flandreau and Larchwood in the second round next week Wednesday.
