Today marks the day for the 2026-2027 school to have activities to begin the season. Three sports will get their first practices in and we are under two weeks before the first competition in the state.
Competitive Cheer and Dance along with soccer and girls tennis will officially begin practicing today as the three sports only affect the Pierre Governors. While the competitive cheer and dance teams won’t have its first competition until the end of the month, the girls tennis team is less than two weeks from its first competition. Next week Thursday, August 13 the Governors will be hosting several teams for a weekend set of games with Stevens, Rapid City Christian, Yankton, Spearfish and Sturgis. It’s the first official competition of the season. The soccer teams will follow suit in just over two weeks when the Governors host Jefferson in a girls and boys doubleheader on Tuesday, August 18.
Later in the week, football practices begin as both Stanley County and Sully Buttes in nine man football, along with the Class 11B teams will start its preseason on Thursday. It’ll be the first official practices for those two schools. Cross Country, 11AAA, 11AA and 11A football and AA and A boys golf will start practice next week Monday, August 10 and then volleyball the last fall sports team to get practice started which will be on Thursday, August 13.
