PIERRE, (KCCR) — As first responders rushed to the area near the Oahe Dam powerhouse Monday for a report of a vehicle in the water, one of the responders needed care themselves. In a release, American Medical Response says a paramedic suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while at the scene. The Hughes County Sheriff’s Office says the paramedic was in staging area when they experienced the health emergency. First responders and fellow A-M-R members began first aid and the paramedic was then airlifted to the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. The release further goes on to say A-M-R is deeply grateful for the quick actions and exception teamwork of those who stepped in to help. It also states members of the community reached out with concern for the paramedic and A-M-R is grateful for the outpouring of support, prayers and encouragement.
