PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Fort Thompson man has been sentenced to federal prison time for the sexual assault of a young female victim. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says U-S District Court Judge Eric Schulte sentenced 29 year-old Elijah Brown Thunder to 15 years in federal prison with 10 years of supervised release to follow the prison term. As part of the sentence, Brown Thunder must pay over 24-hundred dollars in restitution and pay an assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Brown Thunder was sentenced earlier this month. Parsons says the case dates back to November of 2017, when Brown Thunder engaged in a sex act with a victim between the age of 12 and 16.Brown Thunder sexually assault the victim multiple times over an extended period of time while on the Crow Creek Sioux Indian Reservation. Brown Thunder was indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of Sexual Assault of a Minor in April of 2025. Brown Thunder pleaded guilty back in April. The case came together in part due to the Department of Justice’s Missing or Murdered Indigenous Persons Regional Outreach program.
