South Dakota United Spirit team has made the Championship game of the US Club soccer National Cup. They will play for a National Championship on Friday at 8:30 AM Mountain time in Denver in the U16 Premier division.
The team went 2-0-1 in pool play at this National Cup. They will take on Desert Communities Soccer Club out of Victorville California.
In pool play, SDU tied its first game against Arlington, Virginia 2-2, beat Athens, Georgia 4-1, and beat a team from central Iowa 3-2. Emlyn Swanson had a PK save among several saves this week. Myah Fravel scored on a PK. Aubrey Fischer also scored a goal. Cameron Larson has played well in the midfield, while Josephine Wurtz and Brittney Sargent have played excellent defense in front of Swanson in goal. The team qualified by winning the Midwest Regional Cup in Chicago in June where they went 5-0, beating teams from Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota. Six girls are from Pierre with juniors Swanson and Wurtz, sophomore Sargent and freshmen Fravel, Larson and Fischer. Other girls on SDU are five from Watertown, three from Spearfish, one from Aberdeen, Mitchell, Yankton, Rapid City and Williston, North Dakota.
The championship game will be played at 8:30 Mountain time Friday against Desert Communities of California.
