The Pierre Little League would be unable to advance to day three of the South Dakota Little League State Tournament on Thursday with a 5-0 loss to Canyon Lake in Rapid City.
The host team would get a one hit shutout taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before scoring another run in the second and three runs in the fourth to lead 5-0 on their way to a win. Canyon Lake would have 11 hits in total of the game, but two of the five runs were unearned against the Pierre pitching staff. Joshua Hegge would go five and two thirds allowing those 11 hits with five runs, three earned with one walk and seven strikeouts. Beckett Edson would get the final out in the top of the sixth. Jett Stroup would get the lone hit in the game and be the only base runner for Capital City. Pierre would finish the tournament at 0-2 as Canyon Lake will advance to face Harney on Friday after Harney beat Oglala 12-1 in the second game of the night.
Sioux Falls and Brandon Valley will play in the winner’s bracket championship on Friday with the winner onto Sunday’s championship and the loser facing the winner of Canyon Lake and Harney on Saturday.
