While it’s the first Tuesday of July, the Lil Govs Summer Fun Run will have to wait another week to get started at the Griffin Park tennis courts in Pierre.
It’s the annual event for the cross country team to hold the Tuesday evenings through the month of July for kids grades kindergarten through eighth grade with half mile, mile and two mile runs as the kids can choose how far they want to run. However, due to the mandatory moratorium keeping coaches and athletes to not have contact, the Fun Run cannot take place on this Tuesday. Instead, they will have to wait until next week Tuesday for the first of now three Fun Runs. The athletes will run on the bike path along the river then turn and run back through the middle of the park with turn off spots throughout the course. The goal of the runs is to grow the sport of cross country and have fun while doing it. Jim Keyes, the head coach of the Pierre Governor cross country team will have also have members of the team there to help with running the course.
All Tuesdays will start at 5:30 at Griffin Park near the tennis courts which begins July 14 and continuing on July 21 and 28.
