PIERRE, (KCCR) — While Governor Larry Rhoden may have hosted the President at Mt. Rushmore to celebrate the 250th birthday of America. First Lady Sandy Rhoden is celebrating 250 years of America in Pierre at the Governor’s Residence. The Governor’s residence will be open for tours and treats on Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. While events are often held in the front yard of the Governor’s Residence in Pierre such as the Easter Egg Hunt and Halloween, the opening of the inside of the Mansion is far more rare. Regular tours of the Governor’s residence ended after 2018 when then First Lady Linda Daugaard hosted 30 minute weekly tours during the summer starting in 2011. Rhoden says she’s looking forward to the tours and visiting with those who stop by. The tours are meant to celebrate 250 years of American history, service and community. Meanwhile, at five pm, a reading of the Declaration of Independence will be held in the Senate chambers at the State Capitol. Similar readings will be taking place across the country simultaneously.
