It doesn’t guarantee Pierre Post 8 being at home, but the Eights got two big wins on Monday on the road beating Watertown 4-3 in game one and sweeping Post 17 4-1 in game two.
Pierre had the lone RBI of game one come from a sacrifice fly from Carter Schiefelbein in the top of the third to make it 2-0. Porter Hunsley would help drive in the first run reaching on a bunt single but the throw to first would be wide to score the first run of the game. Sutton Sonnenschein reached on a two out error to score the third run of the game. However, the lead was short lived as Watertown tied the game in the bottom of the third with RBI singles from Cain Everson and Carter Buisker along with an error to tie the game. It would stay tied until Will Danburg reached on a two out error in the top of the sixth scoring Will Eilers to make it 4-3. Schiefelbein would close the door for the save striking out all three with runners on first and second. Carter Templeton would get the win going six innings allowing one earned run, three overall, on three hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Hudson Stoeser, Eilers, Danburg and Hunsley had the only hits in the game.
In game two, Pierre again would strike for three runs in the top of the third, this time coming back from a 1-0 deficit as Eilers would tie the game at 1-1 on an RBI single before Tripp Lindekugel would make it 2-1 with a base hit and as he went to second on the throw home, Watertown tried to throw him out at second and Eilers with the heads up play to score on the throw to make it 3-1. Schiefelbein had an RBI double in the top of the fourth to make it 4-1 and Danburg would go five innings allowing one run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Ryker Edson would get the six out save allowing just a hit with a strikeout. Jackson Goodman also had a double in the win as Eilers and Lindekugel each had two hits.
Pierre picks up its first win in Watertown since July 9, 2018 breaking a streak of 10 straight in legion baseball. The Eights also wrap up its South Dakota season at 15-10 and also improve to 16-14 on the regular season. Pierre will travel to the Gopher Classic this weekend with all games on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
