PIERRE, (KCCR) — The U-S Army Corps of Engineers is waiving day use fees on Corps operated recreational areas across the country. The move is being made as apart of the celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Those day-use fees are being waived from July 3rd to July 5th at more than 28-hundred sites and applies to boat launch ramps and swimming beaches. Camping fees and camping related services, group picnic shelters and other special facilities are not included in the fee waiver. The fee-waiver initiative began nearly 20 years ago for Veteran’s Day of 2006, with the intent to support and honor men and women in the Armed Forces. This year, that effort has expanded to include President Day, The Corps of Engineers founding on June 16th, Independence Day, National Public Lands Day on September 26th and Veteran’s Day. Visitors are encouraged to contact lake and river projects before traveling to verify operating status. Visitors should also be aware of increased fire risks at various recreation areas and remember that fire works use on federal lands is prohibited.
