Cy Taylor would throw a seven inning one hit shutout on Thursday as the Oahe Zap came back from its four day break with a big 14-0 win over the Capital City Aviators on Thursday taking game one of the series.
The Zap would get nine hits with Landon Meyer the only extra base hit as he had two RBIs along with Gavin Fraser and Garren Gledhill, but it would be Connor Goldberg to record three RBIs to lead the team as he, Meyer and Fraser each had two hits. Oahe opened up a 2-0 lead in the first and made it 3-0 in the third before striking for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth as 14 guys came to the plate and the Zap scored four of its nine runs with two outs in the inning. Oahe added on another two runs in the sixth for extra insurance for the 10 run rule win, but Taylor didn’t need it. He went just one batter of the minimum in the game and a had a perfect game until a one out walk in the top of the sixth. His lone base hit was a lead off single in the top of the seventh before turning into a double play to still face the minimum in the seventh to get the shortened win.
The win stops a four game losing skid for the Zap who are now 5-15 on the season. The series continues through the weekend with first pitch tonight and Saturday at 6:05 with Sunday’s game at 5:05, all at Hyde Stadium in Pierre.
