The Pierre Governor Track and Field team will get more hardware from this season as Josh Schleusner, head coach of the Pierre boys team would be awarded the AA West Area track and field coach of the year.
For AA, only two coaches for the boys and two coaches for the girls would be named the head coach of the year, one for the East Area and one for the West Area. It’s the first Coach of the Year for Schleusner as he says he’s humbled and its huge to get this first award…
Schleusner joins Paul Hendry of Stevens as the Girls head coach of the year out of the West Area with Troy Sturgeon of Brandon Valley for East Area girls and Jim Jarovski of Lincoln for the boys as the other head coaches of the year for Class AA. Class A and B each have four area head coach of the year awards. Pierre finished in seventh as a team, just missing the podium for the second straight season, but still had an individual state championship with a field MVP and six All-State times and distances at this year’s track and field state competition. Misty Larson, head coach of the Pierre girls program says she’s excited for him and deserving of this award…
Schleusner says this continues to show the track and field program is in the right direction…
Both Schleusner and Larson say they are excited for the 2027 track and field season and the future continues to be bright for the Governor program.
