PIERRE, (KCCR) — Women from Pierre and Dell Rapids have been selected for introduction into the South Dakota Department of Transportation Hall of Honor for 2026. June Hansen of Pierre is the currently the D-O-T’s Civil Rights Compliance Specialist. In obtaining induction to the Hall of Honor, Hansen was selected for her leadership in developing and fostering collaboration between state transportation officials and Tribal nations serving as the Department’s Tribal Liaison. Hansen’s leadership has led to meaningful progress in strengthening communication and building a positive and productive relationship with the state’s nine reservations. Hansen has also been a part of developing the Department of Transpiration’s formal mentoring program and development of the D-O-T’s Transition Plan for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The goal of the Hall of Honor is to recognize individuals who have made a lasting, valuable or unique contribution to the state’s transportation system. The Hall started in 1972 and with Hansen and Kari Karst of Dell Rapids, will have 101 inductees. Hansen and Karst will be honored at a banquet this fall.
