Pierre Post 8 is now over .500 in South Dakota games beating the Aberdeen Smittys 10-6 in game one and sweeping Aberdeen with a 2-1 win in game two at home on Wednesday evening.
Aberdeen would take a lead in both games, 1-0, but never led by more than that. In game one, Pierre would tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third and Porter Hunsley would drive in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth giving the Eights a 2-1 lead before taking a 3-1 lead in the fourth. The Eights would score seven runs in the bottom of the fifth which was highlighted by a two run homer from Carter Schiefelbein, his third homer of the season to give Pierre a 10-1 lead nearly winning the game in five innings. Aberdeen would make a run scoring the final five runs with four in the sixth and one in the seventh to make it a 10-6 final score. Aydan Johnson had a double and Ryker Edson and Hunsley each had two RBIs with Jackson Goodman driving in a run in the win. Will Danburg would get the win on the mound giving up five runs over six innings, four earned on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Hudson Stoeser would get the final three outs.
In game two, again Aberdeen took the lead 1-0 and again Pierre tied the game in the bottom of the third, this time on an RBI single from Stoeser. In the bottom of the fourth, Hunsley again would get the go-ahead RBI, this time being the game winning RBI with a sacrifice fly to score Edson as both Hunsley and Alec Eilers each had a double in the game. Hudson Shaffer would go five innings giving up one run on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. Stoeser would get the six out save giving up two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Stoeser would strikeout Drake Soderlund with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh to finish off the win. Soderlund would go 0-4 in game two with four strikeouts.
Pierre is now 11-13 overall and 10-9 in South Dakota games having won 10 of the last 13 games in-state. The Eights are off until Tuesday when they host Palace City Baseball, Mitchell Post 18 with a 4:00 first pitch. Coverage begins at 3:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
