Zane Smith would notch his fourth career top five finish since debuting in 2022 at the Nascar Cup Series finishing in fourth place driving the No. 38 car with the USS Pierre named on his car.
Smith and the rest of the field had a military command on all cars in the Cup Series racing through the road course on the Naval Base on Sunday in San Diego. The USS Pierre was dubbed to Smith’s 38 Ford. Some of the sailors were able to attend meetings and get to be a part of the festivities and would walk with him to the car.
As for the race, Smith would lead three laps during the race on Sunday and pick up 33 points for his fourth place finish. Smith started in fourth and finished in fourth. Smith’s Hard Rock No. 38 Ford would have the USS Pierre crest sitting above the rear quarter windows. Corey Heim would take the win in the inaugural race after slamming into the wall twice while destroying his tires during the first few runs on Sunday.
