PIERRE, (KCCR) — A former Pierre police chief turned photographer has been named the Miss South Dakota Volunteer of the Year. Bob Grandpre replaced his duty belt for a camera in 2014 after serving as Chief for nearly five year. Grandpre first started his volunteer work with the Miss South Dakota organization in 2005 when his daughter Nikki won the title. Grandpre and his wife Becky served as volunteers for several years following Nikki’s years of service. The Grandpres volunteered as prep weekend coordinators in Pierre, securing facilities and preparing meals and lodging. For the last 15 years, Grandpre’s photography has been his contribution to Miss South Dakota. Grandpre serves as Event Photographer and conducts photoshoots for titleholders at no charge. Grandpre currently calls Nebraska home, but continues to provide photography for the South Dakota pageant and similar events in Nebraska. The Volunteer of the Year award has been presented by the Miss South Dakota organization since 2015 with the exception of 2020 due to Covid-19.
