Pierre Post 8 would split a doubleheader Wednesday almost into Thursday with at 14-7 loss in game one and coming back to win game two 13-6 on the road in Rapid City to Post 320.
In game one, Pierre would pick up a 4-0 lead in the top of the first with a single and error from Hudson Stoeser and a two RBI single from Ryker Edson. Edson would finish with three RBIs in game one with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh. Stoeser would make it 5-2 in the top of the second with an RBI single and then score on a double play and Pierre led 6-2 until the bottom of the fourth. Then the bats of Post 320 took over. An eight run inning highlighted by a three run triple from Tegan Sayles who finish a homer shy of the cycle and an two RBI double from Ben Hassett to make it 10-6 Post 320. Max Speed hit a two run homer in the sixth after a two run single by Colton Mehlhaff as Speed was a triple shy of the cycle and had four RBIs in the win making it a 14-6 game. Jackson Goodman had three hits for Pierre and Will Eilers had a double as the Eights had 10 hits, but couldn’t keep up with the Post 320 bats in game one.
A five run fourth inning would take the 3-2 lead to an 8-2 advantage as Sutton Sonnenschein would drive in four runs while Stoeser had three RBIs, Aydan Johnson with two and Carter Schiefelbein and Porter Hunsley each having an RBI. Hunsley, Sonnenschein and Will Eilers each had a double and Schiefelbein had a triple. Sonnenschein also had four hits with Schiefelbein having three. Carter Templeton would get the win on the mound going four and a third inning allowing five runs, four earned on five hits with eight walks and a strikeout. Hunsley would come in relief for two and a third innings. Max Speed in game two for Post 320 had another home run finishing the doubleheader at 6-6 with four extra base hits.
Pierre moves to 6-12 on the season and 5-8 in South Dakota play. The Eights will face Spearfish on Friday with first pitch at 4:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
