FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — Another continuance has been granted in a Stanley County Grand Theft case. The case against 48 years-old Dusti Deal of Pierre was scheduled to be a change-of-plea hearing, but Deal’s attorney Katie Thompson asked for the next court date. Thompson says Deal has been dealing with health issues that have been preventing Deal from taking part in plea negotiations and wanted to give more time for Deal’s health to improve before finalizing a plea agreement. Deal also formally waived the 180-Day rule, which guarantees a speedy trial. Stanley County States Attorney Thomas P. Maher had no objection to the extension. The case has been continued five times since Deal’s indictment last May. Deal’s first court appearance on a Grand Theft charge was in June of last year. Deal is accused of using a business credit card belonging to the Community and Youth Involved Center in Fort Pierre to make approximately 45-thousand dollars in unauthorized purchases on the card. Grand Theft by Embezzlement is a Class Four Felony that a carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a 20-thousand dollar fine.
