Pierre Post 8 will start a long stretch of South Dakota games tonight and it opens with a difficult first opponent as the Rapid City Post 320 Stars will host the Eights in a doubleheader.
While it’s been inconsistent for Post 320 to make the state tournament, they seem to be a team continuing to be on the rise after making the state tournament last year and beat their rival, Post 22 in the first game of the state tournament. This year, the success of the end of the year has continued as the Stars have a win over Post 22 at the Hardhats home field while being now 20-8 on the season. But the Stars are just 4-2 in South Dakota games as they split with Post 22 and Spearfish and have beaten Huron and Harrisburg. Post 320 has a lot of power though, Max Speed has eight home runs while Ayden Byrd has four and Tegan Sayles has two. Speed has driven in 39 runs while Sayles has 34 RBIs. Post 320 has a team average of .352, but are susceptible to give up runs with their defense. Through 28 games, Post 320 is allowing over five runs per game and 52 of the 146 runs have been unearned from the Post 320 Stars pitching staff. Pierre Post 8 is coming in at 5-11 and went 1-3 in the Dakota Classic last weekend. Pierre had two home runs, both by Carter Schiefelbein over the weekend. Post 8 is 4-7 in South Dakota games fighting for a spot to get into the top eight to be able to host the first round playoff series.
Coverage tonight begins an hour later than normal with a 5:45 Central time start and 6:00 first pitch on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
