Pierre Post 8 would hold on to win game one 8-5 over the Bismarck Governors on Wednesday on the road, but the second game would be lopsided late with a 12-2 six inning loss splitting the doubleheader.
In game one, Pierre was excellent with two outs in the inning as they would score the first five runs with two outs as Pierre led 5-0 after the top of the fifth. Hudson Stoeser would have two triples in the game while Will Eilers had an RBI triple and RBI single and Tripp Lindekugel would also have an RBI double. Jackson Goodman, Ryker Edson and Sutton Sonnenschein each had RBIs in the win. Hudson Shaffer would get the win with four and a third innings pitched giving up four runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Edson would get five outs giving up one run on two hits and Carter Schiefelbein would earn the save with three strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh.
In game two, Bismarck would lead 1-0 in the first and made it 2-0 in the third, but Pierre battled back to tie the game up as Lindekugel would get an RBI triple and along with having a double had three extra base hits in the doubleheader and then error scored Lindekugel to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth. However, the Eights couldn’t score in the top of the sixth and the wheels fell off in the bottom of the sixth. Bismarck would score 10 runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game short of seven innings as the Governors had five hits and had the help of two errors and four walks in the inning. Schiefelbein and Shaffer each had a double along with Lindekugel’s two extra base hits. Sonnenschein would be tagged with the loss as he gave up all of his seven earned runs, eight in total in the bottom of the sixth.
Pierre is now 4-8 on the season and will travel to Sioux Falls this weekend to play in the Dakota Classic opening with Yankton on Friday. First pitch is at 2:30 with coverage starting at 2:15 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
