Pierre Post 8 and Brandon Valley would each use crooked numbers to split a doubleheader Monday in Pierre with Brandon Valley winning 4-2 in game one and Pierre taking game two holding on for a 3-2 win.
In game one, Brandon Valley would get all four runs in the top of the third as Bryce Plucker had a two RBI double and Max Peters and Grady Gindorff each had an RBI and it was all Post 131 needed, but Pierre made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh. A lead off double for Ryker Edson and a walk and error loaded the bases with nobody out. Porter Hunsley had an RBI groundout and Carter Schiefelbein had a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2. Pierre again loaded the bases with two outs but Bryton Stroh would get Tripp Lindekugel looking for the third out securing the game one win. Bridger Babcock would go the complete game on the mound with four runs, two unearned on eight hits with three strikeouts.
In game two, Pierre would get all three of their runs in the bottom of the second as the Eights took advantage of three errors in the inning by Brandon Valley. Schiefelbein had an RBI single with Hudson Stoeser also getting an RBI in the inning and again, it was all the Eights needed. Carter Templeton would get the win on the mound going five and two thirds giving up two runs, one earned on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts as Will Danburg would get the save getting the final four outs including getting out of a bases loaded two out jam in the sixth and a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to split the doubleheader. Stoeser and Sutton Sonnenschein each had two hits in the win.
Pierre moves to 3-7 on the season and will face its first non-South Dakota opponent on Wednesday with a doubleheader against Bismarck. Coverage begins at 4:45 with first pitch at 5:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
