Coming off the doubleheader sweep of Sioux Falls East Post 15 on Wednesday, Pierre Post 8 will host Brandon Valley searching for wins three and four in a row.
Pierre is at 2-6 to start the season, but after a 9-2 win in game one, and then a 10 run sixth inning to win 16-8 in game two, the Eights are trying to build off the first wins of the season into a big matchup against Brandon Valley, who is coming in at 2-1 and just won the high school baseball state championship for the second straight year. Post 131 split with Yankton to start the year, who Pierre will face on Friday to open the Dakota Classic in Sioux Falls. Brandon Valley beat Yankton 6-5 in game one but lost 9-0 in game two. The other win came on Thursday with a 13-3 win over Lennox, which won’t count to the season standings at the end of the year. Caleb Severin has two home runs in just three games as he’ll be a bat to watch for Post 131. In the doubleheader sweep for Pierre, Carter Schiefelbein had six hits, with five coming in the second game and Hudson Stoeser had two hits in game one and two hits in game two including driving in five runs.
Coverage today begins at 3:45 with first pitch of the doubleheader at 4:00. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
