The 4-13 SoDak 16 game would be a lot closer than the four seed would have liked as the Pierre Governors battled and led midway through the game falling to Brandon Valley 8-6 Tuesday night to close out the season.
McKenzi Flottmeyer, a senior for the Governors, would go through the first four innings spacing out hits and holding the Lynx at bay with just one run allowed giving the Govs the shot to take the lead. And they did. Alivia Heymans would double in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1 and a hard hit grounder by Taryn Spruill would get through the infield on an error scoring the go-ahead run and the Govs led 2-1 through four complete. Brandon Valley would reclaim the lead with an RBI triple by Alexa Harms and an RBI single by Briley Laber, but a one out error followed by a line out kept the inning going for the Lynx scoring three more runs with six in total to lead 7-2 after the fifth. Jordyn Kirkie would get a two RBI single in the top of the sixth to make it 7-4, but with it 8-4 in the top of the seventh, Micah Buffalo would get an RBI single and Charlie Hull would score on a sacrifice fly from Heymans to make it 8-6 and Pierre had the tying runs on base, but were unable to score either runner. BV’s Peyton Amdahl went 4-4 as the Lynx outhit Pierre 11-9.
Brandon Valley advances to face Roosevelt in the first round of the Class AA State Tournament while Pierre finishes at 5-14 and have graduated seniors Presley Spies Flottmeyer, Hull and Buffalo.
