In a rematch from just two weeks ago, the Pierre Governors will look to upset the Jefferson Cavaliers in the first round of the state tournament, kicking off the weekend.
The Governors fell victim to Jefferson on the final day of the regular season as the Cavaliers swept the Govs in Pierre with 5-4 and 5-1 wins. Pierre had a lead in both games, but could not hold on to either game. However, the Govs did enough on the pitching side, but had three unearned runs against in the 10 runs they scored. While Pierre didn’t hit the ball particularly well against Mitchell in the super regional round, they got the timely hits and took advantage of the Mitchell mistakes. Pierre had just 10 hits in the two games against Jefferson two weeks ago. Pierre threw both Carter Templeton and Will Danburg start both games, but it doesn’t necessarily mean either one will start today with Brennen McCullough who led the team in innings pitched having not thrown yet in the playoffs. Jefferson swept Spearfish with 11-1 and 14-2 wins, ending both by run rule as the Cavaliers have won 10 straight outside of the exhibition loss to Lincoln last week Monday.
Coverage today begins at 11:40 with first pitch at 12:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports. There will be no video coverage, but YouTube will still be a source of streaming for the game. If Pierre wins, they will play at 3:30 on Saturday against either Brandon Valley or O’Gorman with the championship game scheduled for 8:30, all at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls.
