Both the Miller girls and boys golf teams are heading to the state tournament in less than two weeks as the two teams would win the Region 5B title at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre on Tuesday.
The Miller boys were led by Derek Brueggeman who would win the individual Region title going two over, 74 as he was followed by Sully Buttes’ Gavin Colson who was three shots back at five over par, 77. Gettysburg’s Wiley Cronin was third at eight over, 80 for fourth place as the Battlers were second in the team standings also qualifying their team. The Stanley County boys would get three golfers inside the cut line to qualify for state as Ian Schweitzer and James Fosheim would lead the Buffaloes with a 13 over par, 85 while Joe Malm was five shots back at a 90 even. Lyman would also get three to qualify for state with MJ Diehm shooting an 86 and both Red Sazue and Gabe Smith going at 88.
The Miller girls would get the first, third and fourth place finishers at Hillsview with Jayce Pugh winning the event by three strokes at eight over par, 79 while Kaihlyn Anderberg was third at an 87 and Sydney Asmus at 91. Sully Buttes’ Berkley Birney would qualify for the state tournament with a 15th place finish at a 110, just seven shots back of a top eight finish. Brynlie Ahlemeier would qualify as well for Gettysburg at a 103. Selby Area would be the second place team for the girls.
