PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Lower Brule man has been sentenced on federal charges of assault with a dangerous weapon. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says 20 year-old Latrelle LaRoche was sentenced last week by U-S District Judge Eric Schulte to six and a half years in federal prison. LaRoche will serve three years of supervised release after the prison term. LaRoche was indicted by a federal grand jury in August of last year and pleaded guilty in February. Parsons says LaRoche was in the victim’s home on June 19th of last year arguing with the victim over money he claimed he was owed. LaRoche fired a warning shot, then shot a second time, with the round striking the victim in the abdomen. The victim required medical treatment, including surgery for his injuries. After sentencing, LaRoche was placed in the custody of the U-S Marshal’s Service to begin serving his sentence.
