PIERRE, (KCCR) — Riverfront Broadcasting is growing again across South Dakota. Multiple broadcasting industry websites are reporting that Riverfront has agreed, pending regulatory approval by the Federal Communications Commission to purchase a cluster of stations in Watertown from Connoisseur Media. Connoisseur purchased the Watertown cluster and stations in Brookings and Madison from Alpha Media in 2025. In 2024, Alpha bought the stations and proceeded to release nearly all of its air staff. Connoisseur brought some staff back, but is selling off smaller clusters to local ownership. Riverfront has 21 stations across South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. South Dakota stations are in Pierre, Yankton; the company headquarters; Huron, Rapid City, Spearfish and soon six in Watertown. Connoisseur C-E-O Jeff Warshaw says his company has been talking to Riverfront Broadcasting for several months and says Riverfront, being a South Dakota company, understands the local market and can carry on providing local content to listeners. The sale is expected to close in late summer.
