The Sioux Falls Stampede are heading to the Clark Cup Championship for the first time since 2019 with a 3-2 win over the Fargo Force Tuesday night in Sioux Falls on a late third period goal.
Fargo would lead both at 1-0 and 2-1, but the Herd would answer each time to even the score making it 2-2 through two periods. Logan Renkowski would score both second period goals for Sioux Falls. After being outshot 13-9 in the first period, Sioux Falls would hold Fargo to just seven shots on goal the remaining of the game including just three in the third period. With just barely over two minutes remaining in the third, Joey Macrina would get a pass from Thomas Zocco at the bottom of the faceoff circle and rip a shot past the goaltender to give the Herd a 3-2 advantage. Sioux Falls had an empty net goal called back on an offside with just around 30 seconds remaining, but the Force hit the post once and could not tie the game sending Sioux Falls to the Clark Cup championship where they will play the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the final series. Pierre’s Carter Sanderson will get another homecoming this year, this time on the biggest stage of the USHL as Muskegon will be in Sioux Falls for games one and two this weekend.
Puck drop of game one in Sioux Falls is at 7:05 Friday night with puck drop at 6:05 Saturday night at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
