The Madison Capitols would take game three at home on Friday 4-1, but Carter Sanderson and the Muskegon Lumberjacks would even the USHL Eastern Conference Finals at 2-2 with a 4-1 win on Saturday.
All the scoring on Friday would happen in the third period as the Caps would take a 1-0 lead before Muskegon would tie the game at 1-1 late in the third. But Madison answered a minute later and added two quick empty net goals to win 4-1 putting the Lumberjacks on the brink of elimination.
In game four, Pierreās Sanderson would get an assist on the first goal of the game in the second period. Sanderson would get his second point of the game with a goal to make it 3-0 to end the second period. Sanderson finished with two points in the 4-1 win to keep his team alive for game five on Monday. Muskegon held Madison to just seven total shots on goal in the second and third period including only two shots on goal in the second, outshooting the Capitols 36-21 in the game. Sanderson now has four goals and three assists in nine playoff games this year.
Sioux Falls and Fargo are also going to game five in the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday after Fargo won in triple overtime 4-3, but the Stampede won 2-1 on Saturday.
Puck drop on Monday is at 6:10 Central Time from Muskegon. The winner will advance to the Clark Cup Championship starting next weekend.
