PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Pierre City Commission approved an emergency declaration to move forward immediate repairs to the city’s drinking water treatment plant. City Engineer Nick Waters says the city needs to replace the plants zebra mussel mitigation system…
That chemical is safe for human consumption and is used in similar systems to prevent zebra mussel accumulation. The Commission approved repairs last fall that ended up being too expensive…
Waters says the emergency declaration allows the work to get done as soon as possible…
The estimated cost is 225-thousand dollars that city will be looking to recover as a part of the plant’s original construction.
