The Pierre Governor track and field team will have two different meets this weekend, today in Aberdeen and Saturday in Sturgis. The Governors will split the squads up to compete in one of the two events.
Both meets are varsity meets, but with the squads splitting, there will be more entries potentially for other guys and girls to compete at the varsity level. After competing at the O’Gorman Invite and also at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays last weekend, this will be the lone days of competition for the Govs this week. Pierre still has the Capital City Qualifier at home on Tuesday. Josh Schleusner, head coach of the Pierre boys team says going back to last weekend with the Howard Wood Dakota Relays, it’s now set up the Govs for the stretch run of the season…
Schleusner has talked about the Howard Wood is the midterm and he says he would give the team a lower B, but he knows there will be continued improvement as the season winds down…
Misty Larson, head coach of the Pierre Governor girls team says it’s an opportunity to compete regardless of where each athlete competes…
Larson says it always comes back to being focused for the key heading into the weekend…
Today the Govs will start the track and field meet at 3:30 with the field events and 4:00 for the track events in Aberdeen. The field events begin at 9:00 AM Central Time and track events at 10:00 AM Central time in Sturgis on Saturday.
