The Muskegon Lumberjacks and Madison Capitols are tied at 1-1 in the best-of-five USHL Eastern Conference Finals as the series shifts to Madison this weekend for games three and four.
The series could be clinched by either team with a sweep of the weekend, but the Lumberjacks need to win one to ensure the series would go back to Muskegon to be on home ice for game five if they don’t win the series this weekend. The Lumberjacks, the defending Clark Cup Champions are in the Eastern Conference Finals for the third straight year and still have an opportunity to go back-to-back. Muskegon finally broke past Madison’s goalie, Caleb Heil, who gave up four goals in the 5-3 win on Saturday, the most in a playoff game this year and only the second time Heil gave up multiple goals in a game. Heil is a North Dakota commit, just like his opponent and the captain of Muskegon, Pierre’s Carter Sanderson, who scored the game winning goal on Saturday. Sanderson now has three goals and an assist in seven playoff games this year.
In the Western Conference Finals, the Sioux Falls Stampede will be in Fargo to take on the Force in games three and four this weekend with the series also tied at 1-1. If the series would go five games, it will be back in Sioux Falls on Tuesday.
Puck drop is at 7:05 for both Friday and Saturday night’s games in Madison. If the series goes five games, the winner-take-all game five will be in Muskegon on Monday.
