PIERRE, (KCCR) — Rain last week stalled out the expansion of drought in some parts of South Dakota. The biggest change on the county level was the removal this week of extreme drought from Tripp and Lyman Counties. Extreme drought in Tripp County fell from 42-percent to zero this week. Tripp remains in 100-percent severe drought. In Lyman County, extreme drought fell five-point-seven-five percent to zero. Severe drought fell three-percent while moderate drought is unchanged at 95-percent. What minor severe drought in Hughes County is gone this week, dropping from point-four-six percent to zero. Moderate drought in Hughes County declined nearly 10-percent. Stanley County saw drought numbers staying roughly unchanged with only a tenth-of-a-percent drop in moderate drought in the southeast corner. Statewide, extreme drought fell two-percent with severe drought down three-percent and moderate down a percent. Abnormally dry area also decreased by a percent with drought free areas increasing by a single percent this week.
